Nonamu’s silk scarves and designs are wearable art, designed to set you apart. They are inspired by the indulgence of the centuries old Peranakan (Baba Nyonya) heritage of Malaysia. The colourful and intricate designs reflect its local culture where each piece weaves authentic heritage.
Industrial designer, Ai Pheng Yeap lives and breathes Peranakan (Baba Nyonya) culture because she grew up surrounded by it in Penang. She wanted to pay tribute to the culture by fusing the traditional with the modern, therefore creating Nonamu. The brand is to preserve a craft and a history that is slowing fading away, incorporating the heritage into each design.
The vibrant colours and exotic designs that are present in each product. They reflect every bit of the Peranakan heritage of Malaysia, from the language to the clothes, to their porcelain designs, all the way to the food.
This print design is a fusion of both 'kuih lapis' (a steamed layered dessert) and the herringbone pattern, inspired by Peranakan afternoon tea cakes (nyonya kuih). This scarf is suitable to be used as a neckerchief, headband, wrist wrap, pocket square and to accessorise bags.Material & Composition
