Nonamu’s silk scarves and designs are wearable art, designed to set you apart. They are inspired by the indulgence of the centuries old Peranakan (Baba Nyonya) heritage of Malaysia. The colourful and intricate designs reflect its local culture where each piece weaves authentic heritage.
Industrial designer, Ai Pheng Yeap lives and breathes Peranakan (Baba Nyonya) culture because she grew up surrounded by it in Penang. She wanted to pay tribute to the culture by fusing the traditional with the modern, therefore creating Nonamu. The brand is to preserve a craft and a history that is slowing fading away, incorporating the heritage into each design.
The vibrant colours and exotic designs that are present in each product. They reflect every bit of the Peranakan heritage of Malaysia, from the language to the clothes, to their porcelain designs, all the way to the food.
This scarf collection is inspired by the dazzling colours and intricate craftsmanship of Peranakan porcelain, also known as 'Nyonya ware'. The scarf is splashed with colour and traditional themes - the peach blossom represents good luck and happiness; the bold colour of the peony flower symbolises royalty, wealth and honour; the lotus blossom brings harmony and purity, while the phoenix embodies a beauty and grace that only the Chinese king of birds can. The contrast between the pastel greens and pinks allow for the scarf to stand out when one is wearing it, a beautiful piece of art reflecting the many years of rich history.Material & Composition
